Chi Upsilon Sigma Latin Sorority, Inc. (ΧΥΣ), Alpha Zeta Chapter
Chi Upsilon Sigma
Organization Information
With over 45 undergraduate chapters and 7 graduate chapters, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc. takes pride in being the second oldest national Latin sorority and living by their motto “Wisdom through Education”. Chi Upsilon Sigma was founded on April 29, 1980, at the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Alpha Zeta chapter of CUS at Texas Christian University was founded in 2003. Its founders are seven Latinas who had the desire to form an organization to promote leadership in the community and sisterhood - to create a place away from home in which members could feel the strong sense of family. Although Chi Upsilon Sigma was founded by Latinas and is a Latin-based sorority, the membership has grown to include women of a variety of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. Their common calling is a respect for one another and the ideals of their Founding Mothers, rooted in individuality, loyalty, pride, womanhood, and appreciation of all cultures and all its aspects. The women of Chi Upsilon Sigma work to not only educate themselves but also the community through their four awarenesses – political, education, cultural, and social. They consider sisterhood to be a lifelong commitment, not only to the organization, but also to each other.
